A Wonderland Frozen in Time
Gorgeous, pristine, and pretty much off the beaten track, Nubra Valley is one of the less explored destinations in Ladakh. Located at the confluence of river Nubra & Shyok, this gorgeous valley, locked between Ladakh and Karakorum ranges, is an unusual combination of dunes and blossoming apricot orchards. After passing the mighty Khardung La Pass, a spaghetti-like road runs down the valley, taking you to Diskit, one of the many oasis villages of Nubra. Your amazement has no bounds as the stark landscape suddenly comes alive with bursts of desert blooms & apricot trees in Nubra.
Breathtaking landscapes, age-revered monasteries, palace ruins, and an innate sense of peace are the allure of Nubra. Come along as we check out the beautiful attractions of this gorgeous valley in Ladakh
Walk up the winding hill road along Mani walls & chortens to this 14th-century monastery of the Red-hat sect of Buddhism. This monastery, the largest & the oldest in the region, is embellished with beautiful frescos and a 106 ft statue of Maitreya Buddha. Don’t miss the fantastic views of the valley sprawled below.
Spectacular sand dunes and double-humped Bactrian camels greet you in the cold desert of Hundar. Check out the beautiful Hundar Gompa and take a double-humped camel ride for an experience of a lifetime.
Home to the beautiful Yarab Tso Lake, and a150-years old Samstemling Gompa, Sumur is a beautiful little village in the valley. Stay at the beautiful Nubra Ecolodge, run by a Ladakhi family, and experience a bit of local life in the desert.
Pramanik village is much known for its hot sulfur springs, which are believed to have medicinal properties. While in Pramanik, trek up the serene Kora Path lined with prayer flags and relics of chortens to the beautiful Ensa Gompa.
Around 80ks from Diskit, Turtuk is the last civilian entry point, marking the border road. A part of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir till 1971, Turtuk came back to India after the 71’Indo-Pak war. A predominantly Muslim region, with a Baltik culture, Turtuk stands frozen in time, much beyond worldly borders.
The best time to visit Nubra Valley would be in summers from April to September.
By Air- The closest airport in Leh, around 160kms from Nubra Valley, is connected to major cities in India.
