A Divine Experience
Once an inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's famous work- The Jungle Book, these lush jungles of Satpura still beckon thousands of wildlife lovers for a tryst with the tigers of Kanha.
Established as a National Park in 1955 in the forests of Mandla and Kalaghat districts of Madhya Pradesh, Kanha was designated a Tiger Reserve in 1974 and has since been one of the finest national parks in India.
Come along to these whispering woods where wild beasts lurk in the shadows, birdsongs mellow the air, and a sense of adventure hangs in the surroundings.
Spread over an area of around 940 sq km, Kanha is the land of undulating topography. These densely forested woods comprise of grassy hills, wide plateaus, sprawling meadows, and rivers & streams crisscrossing the jungle terrain. Tropical deciduous forests, thick bamboo groves, and open grasslands embrace the land at Kanha. Sal, Mahua, and Tendu trees soar to the skies and offer shelter to hundreds of the birds at the park.
The Royal Bengal Tiger is certainly the king of the jungle in Kanha National Park. However, the park is much known for the preservation & restoration of the Swamp Deer or Barasingha, also known as the jewel of Kanha. Besides these, teeming numbers of leopards, sloth bear, hyena, nilgai, wild boar, barking deer, jungle cat also inhabit the green realm of Kanha National Park.
Scores of bird’s species flock the thick jungles & trees at Kanha. Black ibis, bee-eaters, cattle egret, blossom-headed parakeets, whistling teal, minivets, pied hornbill, steppe eagle, white-eyed buzzard, white-breasted kingfisher, and many more birds fill the air with their twitter & chirp.
A wildlife safari in the dense forest is the best way to experience e wilderness of Kanha. The safaris are conducted by experienced guides early in the morning & then again in the afternoon. You may opt for Jeep Safaris, Open Van Safaris, or lord over the jungle on an Elephant Safari. Hear the rustling leaves, feel the breeze on your face, and get ready for an up-close-personal experience with the tigers of Kanha.

Kanha National Park is open to visitors from mid-October to June end. The peak tourist season begins in October and continues till March.

By Rail- The railhead at Jabalpur, around 180kms away, is the nearest railway station connecting Kanha National Park with the cities in the region.
