Tawang Gompa
Perched high on a ridge-top amidst tall pine trees, this splendid Monpa royal palace was converted into a monastery in 1681 AD. Its pristine white facade, with red embellishments and a dazzling yellow roof, looks down benignly upon the valley. World's second-largest Buddhist monastery, Tawang is famed for its priceless library, and its magnificent prayer hall decorated with vibrant Thagakas & a tall Buddha statue. Urgelling Gompa
This humble & soulful monastery, embellished with colorful prayer flags, is believed to be the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Built-in the late 15th century, the modest structure is fringed with trees and is home to paintings of Dalai Lamas and forehead & feet imprints of the 6th Dalai Lama. Giant Buddha Statue
A short walk uphill from the town center takes you to this massive 75ft high statue of Buddha installed at the hilltop. Pay obeisance to Buddha and watch the skies turning rose & gold as the sun sets on the valley.
Gyangong Ani Gompa
Perched on a hillock and connected to Tawang Gompa by a cable car ride, Gyangong is a Buddhist nunnery founded by Merag Lama, the founder of Tawang Gompa. This Ani Gompa is now home to around 50 nuns.
Pankang Teng Tso Lake
Located around 17kms from Tawang amid tall mountains and lush conifers, this picture-perfect lake is sure to mesmerize you. Framed with blue flowers in summers and a blanket of snow in winters, this alpine lake is a much-visited spot in Tawang.
Tawang War Memorial
