Sabarmati Ashram
A landmark in the Indian independence movement, this ashram on the banks of River Sabarmati was home to Mahatma Gandhi for 12 years, and the nerve center for the Indian independence movement. Mahatma Gandhi’s residential cottage, Hriday Kunj, has been preserved as it was during his lifetime. The ashram now houses a museum, library, and a photo gallery displaying memorabilia & souvenirs linked with Mahatma Gandhi.
Jama Masjid
Also called Jumma Masjid or the Friday mosque, this 15th-century mosque was built during the reign of Ahmed Shah I, the founder of Ahmedabad. Located in the center of the old city, the mosque is a fine specimen of Indo-Saracenic architecture with lofty domes & tall colonnade, lotus motifs, and intricate carvings.
Sidi Saiyyed Mosque
Built-in 1573, this spectacular mosque is renowned for its exquisitely carved filigree styled windows. The most remarkable amongst these jalis or windows is the sixteen feet Tree of Life motif carved on the right of the central wall arch. This gorgeous artwork has now become the unofficial emblem of Ahmedabad across the world.
Sidi Bashir Mosque
This beautiful mosque is much known for its three-storied minarets popularly known as the Shaking Minarets. It is believed that if one minaret is shaken, the other one moves too. This inexplicable phenomenon has been a mystery for over five centuries.
Huthseeing Jain Temple
This elegant temple, built by a wealthy Jain merchant, is dedicated to the 15th Jain Tirthankar, Dharamanatha. A graceful structure in white marble embellished with exquisite carvings, Huthseeing temple is a beautiful work of art.
Dada Hari Ni Vav (Step Well)
A cascade of elaborately carved steps & columns plummeting down five stories, greet you at this spectacular step-well. Built-in the late 15th century, this stepwell makes an intriguing picture with shafts of lights flitting through the columns and birds & bats flying through its cavernous structure.
