Ajanta Caves
et along the ridges of the Western Ghats, Ajanta Caves are renowned for their Buddhist temples and exquisite murals. The history of these 30 rock-cut caves dates back to thousands of centuries dating back from the 2nd century BC to 5th century AD. Chiseled patiently by Buddhist monks over hundreds of years, the sculptures and murals in the caves reflect the changes in Buddhism with the introduction of the Hinayana sect.
Ellora Caves
Developed much after Ajanta, dating back to the 6th and 10thcentury AD, these exquisitely painted rock-cut caves comprise of over 100 caves of which only 34 have been opened for public viewing. A jumble of monasteries, shrines, sculptures; the caves are famous for the exotic frescos on the walls & ceilings that depict the superior aesthetics of Indian art.
Bibi-ka-Maqbara
Often known as the Taj of the Deccan, this beautiful sandstone structure is built on the lines of the Taj Mahal in Agra. Built by Prince Azim Shah in the memory of his mother & Aurangzeb’s wife, Rabia-ul-Durani, this magnificent building depicts the love of a son for his mother.
Aurangabad Caves
Nestled in the bosom of the Western Ghats, these 2000-year-old caves are mute witnesses to the growth and transformation of the historical city of Aurangabad. This network of 12 Buddhist caves depicts elegant pillars, sculptures, and carvings.
Daulatabad Fort
Built-in the 12th century AD, by the Yadavs of Deogiri, the fort is also known as Devgiri Fort. It was captured & fortified by Muhammad-bin-Tughlug who named it Daulatabad. This fort is a fine specimen of town planning, military engineering and ingeniously planned water management system in the medieval era.
