The institute, established in 1957, aims to preserve Tibetan art, culture, and language. Set amidst lush greenery, the institute is home to a collection of statues, coins, masks, Thangkas, ancient manuscripts, and Tibetan artwork.
Do Drul Chorten
Standing atop a hillock, a short walk from the Institute of Tibetology, lies this spectacular stupa dressed in white & gold. Its golden spire, rising high up in the sky, is visible from various parts of the city. The Chorten is ringed with 108 prayer wheels that echo Buddhist mantras amidst soulful tranquility.
Tashi View Point
Located around 8kms from town, this is the best place to watch the changing hues of the sky at sunrise & sunset. A tourist hotspot and a favorite haunt of nature lovers & photographers, this viewpoint promises you a perfect frame for a beautiful shot.
Nathu La Pass
Around 56kms from Gangtok, this sky-high pass marks the international border between India and China. Walls of snow, stunning Himalayan views, and magnificent valley vistas greet you at Nathu La.
