Alluring Attractions of Bandhavgarh National Park
Topography and Vegetation at Bandhavgarh
Sprawled in an area of 105 km sq, Bandhavgarh’s lay of the land is quite uneven with rocky ridges and deep valleys carved by the perennial rivers flowing in the area. Parts of the park have low hills covered with forests interspersed with grasslands, marshy patches, and ancient caves. The vegetation here ranges from dense Sal forests & young bamboo thickets to stretches of grassland. Many streams crisscross through Bandhavgarh’s terrain.
Mammals and Other Species
The whiter tigers of Rewa are the undisputed masters of Bandhavgarh. However, many other animals inhabit the dense jungle here. Spotted deer, sambar deer, nilgai, wild boar, chinkara, sloth bear, rhesus macaque, black-faced langur, jungle cat, and hyena are some of the inhabitants of the park. A legend of Bandhavgarh goes that every white tiger in the world can trace its ancestry back to Bandhavgarh.
Birds of Bandhavgarh
Bandhavgarh is also home to various residents & migrant birds. Steppe eagles, orange-headed thrush, browed fantails, green pigeons, black & white Malabar hornbills, green bee-eaters, black stork, owls, paradise flycatchers, and giant leaf bird are some birds that inhabit the forest of Bandhavgarh.
Tiger Safari in Bandhavgarh
Bandhavgarh’s three core safari zones- Tala, Magadhi, and Khitauli are the best for a thrilling safari experience. Book an Open Jeep Safari or a Canter Safari and go riding through the sounds of crushing dry leaves, whispering wind, and bird calls for an enthralling experience. You may also go for an elephant safari that takes you on a path not traversed by the vehicles. The thrill of watching the beast in its raw & magnificent form is beyond words.
Bandhavgarh Fort
Built on high grounds in Tala zone, this ancient fort covered in a veil of myths & mysteries lends its name to the national park. A combination of two words- Bandhav meaning brother & Garh meaning fort, Bandhavgarh Fort is believed to be gifted by Lord Rama to brethren Lakshaman. A short trek dotted with caves, ruins, rock paintings & ancient statues, takes you to the fort.
Baghel Museum
The museum showcases the hunting trophies and private collection of the Maharaja of Rewa. A stuffed white tiger called Mohan, a carved ivory & silver chess set, and Belgian cut glass & silver artifacts are the highlights of the Baghel Museum.
