Mehrangarh Fort
Chiseled out of the hill on which it stands Mehrangarh fort echoes with the legendary tales of Rajput valor. Walk up the steep path up the fort where impressions of cannonball hits and handprints of Sati (royal widows who committed ritualistic suicide) depict its many legends. Its sturdy battlements and massive gates give way to delicate lattice windows, spectacular gardens, and ornate balconies of the many palaces located inside the fort.
Jaswant Thada
A quiet spot, away from the hustle-bustle of the old city, Jaswant Thada was built in 1899 as a memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, the dynamic and progressive Maharaja of Jodhpur. Sitting atop a small lake right across from the Mehrangarh Fort, this spectacular marble edifice with its exquisite lattice screens, brilliant architecture and superb views of the old city & fort, is a must-visit attraction of Jodhpur.
Umaid Bhawan Palace
This fairy-tale palace, commissioned by Maharaja Umaid Singh, is one of the world’s grandest private residences. The descendants of the Jodhpur royalty still occupy a section of the palace while the rest of it has been converted into a luxurious heritage hotel and a museum. The museum showcases royal photographs and artifacts along with a collection of vintage cars, and antique clocks.
Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park
A wasteland transformed into an awesome rock garden, Rao Jodha Desert Park is a place of scenic beauty. Located right adjacent to the Mehrangarh Fort, this rock garden is home to over 300 species of rock-loving plants, both indigenous and imported, that thrive in the sands of Thar. Walk on its rocky trails to discover the unique floral heritage flourishing in the shadows of the Mehrangarh Fort.
