It is believed that after the battle of Ramayana, Lord Rama prayed at this temple to Lord Shiva to absolve him of all his sins. One of the Shiv Lingams in the temple is believed to be built by Goddess Sita.
Adam’s Bridge or Ram Setu
As per the Hindu epic Ramayana, the monkey army of Lord Rama built a bridge across the ocean to Sri Lanka to attack the demon and bring back Lord Rama’s kidnapped wife. A few limestone shoals, giving the appearance of the ruins of a bridge, hang here precariously balanced on the waters, making you wonder about the myths & legends of Rameswaram.
Gandhamadhana Parvatham
According to Ramayana, the monkey God Hanumana brought down the Gandhamadhana Parvatham from the north to find the curative herb that saved Lakshmana’s life during the battle of Ramayana. This highest point in Rameswaram houses a temple dedicated to Lord Rama, with imprints of his feet on a chakra.
Agniteertham
Agniteertham is considered sacred as Lord Rama bathed here after killing demon Ravana. As per the Hindu mythology, a dip in the holy waters of Agniteertham is believed to absolve you of all your sins.
Dhanushkodi Beach and Temple
A washed-away town, often known as a ghost-town, Dhanushkodi is home to a little temple and a gorgeous beach. Visit this lost town drenched in thousands of legends & lore for a deeper insight into the Indian mythology.
